Sulu forces planning another Sabah incursion-NST

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sulu forces in southern Philippines are planning a ‘revenge attack’ following the 2013 deadly stand-off in Lahad Datu and reclaim Sabah, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said. This was gathered from intelligence by the enforcement agencies, Nur Jazlan said. He told the New Straits Times that the ministry was monitoring and working to neutralise the local network of sympathisers. “We have been doing continuous and intensive monitoring. There are indications that the group is planning a revenge attack. “We want to neutralise their network of sympathisers to prevent any such attack.” Nur Jazlan said many sympathisers had been assimilated into the communities, making it harder for the enforcers to identify them. “They are normal people, usually locals or non-Malaysians, with ties to the communities in southern Philippines. So, there are many of them. “They have interwoven with the communities in eastern Sabah, which makes it more difficult to identify them.” Immigration Department deputy director-general Datuk Sakib Kusmi said the movement of people with Sulu links was being monitored by enforcement agencies, including the Eastern Sabah Security Command. Sabah state assembly on Thursday passed a proposal to ban foreigners associated with the self-proclaimed Sulu sultanate from entering the country. Legal action was also proposed against PKR lawmakers Nurul Izzah Anwar and Tian Chua following their meeting with Jacel Kiram, daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram III, who ordered the 2013 intrusion.

Kes Jacel Kiram: Tian Chua Tuduh Nurul Izzah Hilang Ingatan?

Above is another arrogant and silly statement made by the PKR’s Batu Member of Parliament. Reading the news made me feel so humiliated and hurt because a politic leader of my country assumes that we Malaysian are unable to think straight and can be fooled by such illogical excuses over such a serious misconduct. And I cannot imagine the feelings of the families and friends of the victims of the Lahad Datu tragedy over the statement.

The Malaysian Parliament must conduct a course so that such Members of Parliament can learn the Rukun Negara and the meaning behind it so that they be patriotic and take their duties to the country seriously; and not putting their own selves above the sovereignty of our country.

PETALING JAYA: Batu MP Tian Chua has said that both he and PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar regret the uneasiness caused by the pictures taken with Jacel Kiram during their trip to the Philippines but he maintains that they were unaware that they were taking the pictures with the self-styled Sulu princess.

Does Tian Chua mean that both he and Nurul Izzah did not know the participants of that small meeting and thought that Jacel is just another citizen of the Philippines? 

They were only a very small number of people at the meeting. They would surely introduced themselves or be introduced by the organiser or the person who chaired the meeting. It is impossible for Nurul Izzah to not know that the lady in blue is Jacel Kiram, the daughter of the the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu except if she has such a short memory and cannot remember anything at all after a few minutes.

Or does Tian Chua meant to say that “they were unaware that they were taking the pictures with the self-styled Sulu princess” because when Jacel was enjoying the meal and chatting with Nurul Izzah as in the photo below, she was in disguise and was using another name?

Chua said that both he and Nurul were simply acting in accordance with the common practice of taking pictures with all parties when attending international conferences and that they did not realise who they were taking the photograph with.

From the photos published, that so-called “international conference” was not attended by hundreds of people that the participants do not know each other. Jacel Kiram is not unknown in Malaysia, and if Tian Chua and Nurul Izzah did not recognise Jacel Kiram or did not know her connections to the Lahad Datu tragedy; then they are not fit to be our Members of Parliament.

In fact, the news of former opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim being followed by the so called ‘Princess’ Jacel Kiram on Twitter went viral on the internet during the Lahad Datu tragedy in February 2013. It is a wonder that Tian Chua and Nurul Izzah who are very active on the internet did not recognise the popular daughter of the self proclaimed Sultan of Sulu even if she was introduced to her by another name at the meeting.

The MP also claimed that the issue of sovereignty was being politicised and that political parties should instead be united with regards to the issue of protecting the nations territorial integrity.

The issue of sovereignty was not politicised. Nurul Izzah is a Member of Parliament and like Jacel Kiram, she is not an unknown person. This issue is being raised because Nurul Izzah Anwar Ibrahim had a meeting with an enemy of Malaysia and later on took pictures with her, smiling as if Jacel is her best friend while holding placards calling for the release of a Malaysian prisoner, Anwar Ibrahim.

Now, isn’t the whole actions by them is a humiliation to our country and the victims of the Lahad Datu tragedy? The actions show disloyalty to the King and the country for using an enemy of the State to pressure the State to release a prisoner that was found guilty by the Federal Court.

I must be dreaming because I thought all leaders of a country must be patriotic and loyal to their King and the country.

“We regret that this has cause uneasiness among the people and Nurul Izzah has already apologised to the families of the victims, so why are we playing up his issue?” asked Chua.

Is this the mentality of the opposition leaders? If any of them did something wrong, no matter how serious it is and in this case a humiliation to our country, and he apologises, then things are considered solved and nobody should question and talk about it anymore.

The sovereignty of a country must be upheld by each and every citizen of the country, especially the leaders. Both Tian Chua and Nurul Izzah are not patriotic and it is a pity that they were elected as leaders by their voters.

He added that he had no problem with the police investigating him, and that they should go ahead if they wanted to.

Chua also said that “more concrete action” was needed to guarantee Sabah’s safety from “invaders” and despite being debated many times, there is a lack of defensive improvements seen in Sabah.

Looking for ways to divert the story? After his above statement and what he did before, he has no rights to belittle the work done by the government, PDRM and ATM in order to protect our country.  It was the ATM that defeated the ‘Royal Sulu Army’ which was led by the uncle of Jacel Kiram, the lady in blue who participated in the ‘international conference’ together with Tian Chua and Nurul Izzah but whom they had no idea who was she.

The popular Jakel Kiram must be very sad that if she knows that Nurul Izzah has no idea of who she is even after the meeting, sharing the meal and took lots of photos together.

And by placing inverted commas for the word invaders in the article, does The Star meant to imply that the ‘Royal Sulu Army’ are not invaders and that the attack on Lahad Datu that killed 10 victims from PDRM and ATM who were defending Sabah was just a fairy tale like claimed by Tian Chua in the video below?

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had stated that Chua had been the person who arranged the meeting and that he was also responsible for contacting the Sulu sultanate.

Jacel is the daughter of self-styled Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III who ordered 200 members of his “Royal Sulu Army” to invade Lahad Datu in February 2013 to stake his claim over Sabah.

 

After international statements over international statements about our country made by Jacel Kiram with her photos all over the medias, it is so weird that the two Malaysian Members of Parliament who are internet savvy and actively complaining about the government, are still at lost of who she is. The Star reported, Tian Chua said “they were unaware that they were taking the pictures with the self-styled Sulu princess.”

 

Thousands of Fish Washed To Beach In Tabisan, Lahad Datu -Photos,Videos

Thousands of Tamban fish washed to the beach of Tabisan in Lahad Datu, giving the villagers a chance to catch the fishes with their hands.

This phenomenan makes some people feel as if it is a sign that something bad will happen.

Though such an incident is usually seen as a sign of a possible tsunami, the Meteorological Department said no seismic activity has been recorded off the coast of Lahad Datu.

A local villager Suzila Abdullah, who operates a sundry shop in the village, said that the phenomenon had been occurring in the past three years, but it is different this year because the number of fishes are exceptionally high.

He said that people misquoted his statement.

But there is a video of a Chinese man saying that the Lahad Datu incident was something like a make-believe story fabricated by UMNO …

The banner behind him looks like that February 15, 2013’s speech was made on the Malaysian opposition parties’ stage.

And the Chinese man really looks like Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s vice president, Chua Tian Chang or Tian Chua.

Will Tian Chua says that this is another ‘UMNO’s conspiracy’ as the Lahad Datu incident?

One week after ‘Ops Daulat’, today Malaysian police announced that Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu where the Sulu militant intruders landed, a month ago, is free of the southern Philippines’s Sulu terrorists.

Today the Malaysian security forces retrieved twenty-two bodies of gunmen from three operation areas in Semporna and Felda Sahabat.

Four bodies were brought out from Simunul water village in Semporna, sixteen bodies were recovered from Tanjung Batu while two others from Kampung Tanduo.

A total of fifty-four Sulu gunmen from were killed since the first clash on March  1 and total of ninety-seven people believed to have links with Sulu terrorists have been arrested for investigation.

People who only read their stories might believe those media reports.

That makes me very sad and angry because I love my country very much.

I think that it is unfair for anybody to twist the facts for their own agendas.

I was shocked reading how cruel are those Sulu militants who illegally entered our country and killed our security forces.

They are so cruel that they even mutilated the bodies of fallen heroes after they killed them.

After what they did therir leader asked for a cease fire but keep on shooting our security forces.

(NST) ANGER AND SADNESS: VAT 69 commandos relive the nightmare of seeing their comrades get killed

LAHAD DATU: It was 3am and  pitch dark on the  heavily fortified beach we were on after a long, eventful day.

 

The previous day, security forces  had launched a massive attack on Kampung Tanduo where terrorists from Sulu had been holed up since  Feb 12. 

 

The fear was that they could have  broken through the security cordon and entered nearby villages.

 

Most of the security  personnel  around us had their eyes glued to their night vision binoculars  sweeping the waters ahead and the vast area behind us.

 

Our discussion on what we were planning to do later in the morning was interrupted by a security personnel who walked up from behind  unnoticed.

 

We stood up and turned his way, answering his “salam” that greeted  us.

 

The personnel, whom from then on we addressed as “Abang” asked us what we were doing there.

 

Our conversation revealed what many had wanted to know about what had happened on March 1, when the country was rocked by  news that two security personnel he referred to as “brothers”, were killed by the terrorists in an ambush.

 

Before us stood the commando  who was tasked with maintaining  the security cordon around Kampung Tanduo under Ops Sulu (now  codenamed Ops Daulat).

 

Initially, it seemed impossible to get Abang, whose face was weather-beaten and weary, to open up to us. He was not convinced we were  journalists until we showed him our press credentials.

 

It was clear to us then that as  much as he didn’t want to, as he had no authority to talk to civilians,  he wanted to defend his fellow comrades who had been accused  by some quarters as being part of a  staged “drama”.

 

Abang was one of roughly 40 VAT 69 commandos deployed in the first of three front lines to tighten  the security cordon.

 

VAT 69 is the main force. The second line is the police elite strike force, followed by the general operations force.

 

That morning, in a six-layer “U” formation, the VAT 69 team started  inching closer into the terrorists’  hideout in the village that was located several hundred metres from  the shore. Metres ahead of them  was an incline.

 

As they moved further in, personnel in the first line, which included fallen heroes Assistant Su perintendent Zulkifli Mamat, 29, and Sergeant Sabarudin Daud, 46, stopped in their tracks.

 

All personnel behind them, also stopped. They were suddenly face to face with several terrorists who had been hiding in a chest-deep ditch which was camouflaged with dried palm leaves.

 

“They all suddenly stood up and both sides had weapons trained at each other. Our brothers in front  were training their M-16s down at the terrorists… there were several  seconds of silence.

 

“We had instructions not to shoot  on sight as our mission was to seek and capture.

 

“During this stand-off, which  lasted a few seconds, we noticed more of them behind a slope, just behind the ditch.

 

“It was in that few seconds when their snipers from the slope shot our two brothers in the head,” he said, anger and sadness evident in his eyes.

 

Heavy exchange of gunfire ensued, and the commandos killed 12  terrorists.

 

Abang said when the shooting stopped, his team did not pursue the terrorists as they were uncertain of the enemies’ strength and numbers.

 

“I saw it all from where I was. I saw a glimpse of his face as he fell  back after being hit… it killed me,” he said, referring to one of his men who was shot. Abang then turned  and walked away.

 

As we, too, turned to walk back to  our base, we were approached by another personnel who had earlier passed us by as we were talking to Abang.

 

This VAT 69 commando, who  wanted to be identified only as Agus, was also part of Abang’s  team.

 

Pointing towards Abang, who by then had almost disappeared into the night, Agus said: “He’s very  affected by Tuan Zulkifli’s death. He saw him being shot in the head. He could not do anything but continued shooting at the enemy, even as Tuan Zulkifli’s lifeless body brushed against his leg after hitting the ground”.

 

Agus said the team had, for several mornings, been moving further into the village, setting up  camps as they advanced.

 

On that fateful morning’s mission, Agus was positioned in the  third row.

 

“When one of my brothers was shot in the leg during the shoot- out, my comrades in the fourth row pulled him further back.

 

“He was bleeding so heavily that I had to crouch to stop the bleeding with my left hand while I held my M-16 with my right hand, support ing the buttstock with my right  knee, for about half an hour.

 

“All this while the rest of us continued firing towards the ditch  and slope, until the enemy retreated,” he said.

 

At this point, another personnel who was standing close by joined us. His eyes were glistening with tears of anger when he told us how he felt with regard to the accusations that the Kampung Tanduo ambush was a political ploy. His demeanour changed.

 

It was difficult for both of us to hold back our emotions when this six-foot commando, whose face  was thick in grime, cried as he told us this: “It is something that will haunt you forever, seeing the lifeless bodies of your comrades mutilated. Imagine holding a family  member whose body had been mutilated, in your arms.

 

“One of them was my former squad member, who had a full life ahead of him,”  said the personnel  who was assigned to the water village in Kampung Seri Jaya,  Simunul in Semporna, to retrieve  the bodies of six personnel killed there during an ambush last Sat urday.

 

In the two separate ambushes, eight members of the security  forces were killed.

Malaysia has rejected the unilateral ceasefire call by so-called Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III after he ordered his armed followers to illegally entered Malaysia and started the fight by killing two Malaysian police on Friday and another six the next day.

Sulu militants must lay down arms and surrender unconditionally or the operations against them “will go on as long as it takes,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at a press conference on Thursday.

The Prime Minister arrived at Felda Sahabat in Lahad Datu, Sabah at about 1.41 p.m. today.

Datuk Seri Najib also announced the setting up of a special security area to secure the land and sea borders of the east coast of Sabah, covering the districts of Kudat, Tawau, Kunak, Sandakan and Lahad Datu.

An additional 5 battalions of security forces will be positioned at the special security area.

In a press conference, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the police believed that a militant leader with the rank of general was one of the thirty one gunmen killed in one of the clashes, at 11.30 a.m. today.  

He said in today’s clashes at ground zero in Tanjung Batu, Lahad Datu, the security forces killed thirty two militants, making a total of fifty two Sulu militants killed since last Friday.

There is no casualty on the Malaysia security forces since Saturday.

Malaysia Can Extradite So-Called Sulu Sultan

PETALING JAYA (The Star) : Malaysia can seek the extradition of self-proclaimed Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III from the Philippines to face the law over the intrusion into Sabah, legal experts said.

They said Malaysia’s arrest and extradition of Moro National Libera­tion Front leaderc to the Philippines in 2001 following a request by that country had set a precedent for cooperation in dealing with such cases.

Muslim Lawyers Association of Malaysia Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar said the culprits, including those based in Philippines such as Jamalul Kiram, needed to be brought to Malaysia to face criminal charges of waging war against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, an offence under the Penal Code that is punishable by death upon conviction.

“Our sovereignty has been challenged and while Malaysia wanted to avoid bloodshed they started firing, triggering action which resulted in our security personnel dead, which means there is no more room to forgive them,” said Zainul.

He added that since Jamalul Kiram did not directly take up weapons in Malaysian territory, he could be investigated for abetting to wage war, which also carries the death penalty upon conviction.

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Associate Professor Shamrahayu A. Aziz said the charge could be used against the culprits even if they were not Malaysian citizens because what mattered was where the crime was committed.

“It is also possible for Malaysia to request the extradition of a person who is not in our country if we can prove that the instructions came from him or that he instigated or incited the actions,” she said.

Emeritus Professor of Law at Univ­er­s­iti Teknologi Mara Prof Datuk Shad Saleem Faruqi said many Sections in Chapter 6 of the Penal Code could be used against the culprits.

He said Malaysians in Lahad Datu, who had given protection to the intruders, could also be charged under Section 125A of the Act, which makes it an offence to harbour any person in Malaysia or a foreign country who is at war or considered hostile against the King.

In addition, Shad Faruqi said the culprits could also be charged under the newly included Section 6A of the Penal Code, which deals with offences relating to terrorism.
