Melayu – A Poem By Usman Awang

Melayu itu orang yang bijaksana
Nakalnya bersulam jenaka
Budi bahasanya tidak terkira
Kurang ajarnya tetap santun
Jika menipu pun masih bersopan
Bila mengampu bijak beralas tangan.

Melayu itu berani jika bersalah
Kecut takut kerana benar,
Janji simpan di perut
Selalu pecah di mulut,
Biar mati adat
Jangan mati anak.

Melayu di tanah Semenanjung luas maknanya:
Jawa itu Melayu, Bugis itu Melayu
Banjar juga disebut Melayu,
Minangkabau memang Melayu,
Keturunan Acheh adalah Melayu,
Jakun dan Sakai asli Melayu,
Arab dan Pakistani, semua Melayu
Mamak dan Malbari serap ke Melayu
Malah mua’alaf bertakrif Melayu
(Setelah disunat anunya itu)

Dalam sejarahnya
Melayu itu pengembara lautan
Melorongkan jalur sejarah zaman
Begitu luas daerah sempadan
Sayangnya kini segala kehilangan

Melayu itu kaya falsafahnya
Kias kata bidal pusaka
Akar budi bersulamkan daya
Gedung akal laut bicara

Malangnya Melayu itu kuat bersorak
Terlalu ghairah pesta temasya
Sedangkan kampung telah tergadai
Sawah sejalur tinggal sejengkal
tanah sebidang mudah terjual

Meski telah memiliki telaga
Tangan masih memegang tali
Sedang orang mencapai timba.
Berbuahlah pisang tiga kali
Melayu itu masih bermimpi

Walaupun sudah mengenal universiti
Masih berdagang di rumah sendiri.
Berkelahi cara Melayu
Menikam dengan pantun
Menyanggah dengan senyum
Marahnya dengan diam
Merendah bukan menyembah
Meninggi bukan melonjak.

Watak Melayu menolak permusuhan
Setia dan sabar tiada sempadan
Tapi jika marah tak nampak telinga
Musuh dicari ke lubang cacing
Tak dapat tanduk telinga dijinjing
Maruah dan agama dihina jangan
Hebat amuknya tak kenal lawan

Berdamai cara Melayu indah sekali
Silaturrahim hati yang murni
Maaf diungkap senantiasa bersahut
Tangan diulur sentiasa bersambut
Luka pun tidak lagi berparut

Baiknya hati Melayu itu tak terbandingkan
Segala yang ada sanggup diberikan
Sehingga tercipta sebuah kiasan:
“Dagang lalu nasi ditanakkan
Suami pulang lapar tak makan
Kera di hutan disusu-susukan
Anak di pangkuan mati kebuluran”

Bagaimanakah Melayu abad dua puluh satu
Masihkan tunduk tersipu-sipu?
Jangan takut melanggar pantang
Jika pantang menghalang kemajuan;
Jangan segan menentang larangan
Jika yakin kepada kebenaran;
Jangan malu mengucapkan keyakinan
Jika percaya kepada keadilan.

Jadilah bangsa yang bijaksana
Memegang tali memegang timba
Memiliki ekonomi mencipta budaya
Menjadi tuan di negara Merdeka “

Day And Night, A Poem By Ahmad Ali Karim

Above the ground, up so high,
I see the sky, so blue and bright,
Birds and clouds and aeroplanes too,
Also the sun, our brightest light.

As night falls, the darkness comes,
The blue sky turns, to darker hue,
With twinkling stars, around the moon,
The same old scene has turned anew.

Hours passed, dawn is near,
Leaves are covered with drops of dew,
The birds are back, singing along,
It’s a new day, for me and you.

Sight And Sound, A Poem By Ahmad Ali Karim

The soothing sounds of the waves,
As they lap against the rocks,
Wind whispering through the trees,
I feel calm and free.

The rustling of the leaves,
As grasses dance in the autumn wind,
The sweet fragrance of spring,
I’m as rich as a king.

Bersatulah Bangsaku, A Poem By Ahmad Ali Karim

Bangsaku, bersatulah kita,
Kita satu kaum, satu agama,
Bersatu padu, seia sekata,
Susah senang kita bersama.

Janganlah kita berpecah-belah,
Usahlahlah kita terus bertelingkah,
Berusahalah kita, jangan mengalah,
Agar tidak tersalah langkah.

A Peaceful World Without Tumult – A Poem By Ahmad Ali Karim

Butterflies flying freely in the air,
Bunnies bouncing here and there,
Trees and plants planted everywhere,
My beautiful garden, my dream world.

Friendly fox resting under a tree,
A baby bird sleeps in its nest,
Little beetle riding on a honey bee,
Living their lives, in peace and harmony.

Colourful flowers painted the scene,
Completed by fruits, hanging from the trees,
Its spring water is crystal clean,
Unpolluted garden, beautiful and serene.

Be United, A Poem By Ahmad Ali Karim

Cute little birds,
Flying all around,
Over yellow sunflowers,
Making chirping sounds.

Red, green or blue,
They all have fun,
Unlike humans,
They’re united as one.

Singing the sweetest songs,
Can be heard from afar,
Chirping all around,
No matter where they are.

All around the places,
They’ll fly together,
Nothing can stop them,
Not even the weather.

Rainforest Part 2, A Poem By Ahmad Ali Karim

By the river, surrounded by trees,
There’s many things to be seen,
Birds, squirrels, butterflies and bees,
Around wild flowers, orchids and ferns.

Green plants and grey rocks,
Scattered across the damp grass,
Fishes, foxes, deer and hawks,
Greeting you as you pass.

Soothing sounds, pleasing your ears,
Animals and nature singing for you,
Sounds of nature, you can hear,
Day and night, awaiting you.
