Typhoon Hagupit or locally known as Ruby hit the Philippines on Saturday at 9:15 p.m., bringing strong winds, heavy rains and causing flood in the Eastern Samar and Leyte.

Reuters reported that local radio reported at least four people were killed in Eastern Samar and Iloilo; but the news is not yet confirmed by the authorities.

Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, PAGASA has issued public storm warning signals for 48 geographic areas, spanning from southeastern portions of Luzon (the main northern island) through the Visayas (central Philippines) and northeastern parts of Mindanao (the main southern island).

The city of Tacloban is not badly hit as feared before and according to Alfred Romnualdez, mayor of Tacloban, damage to the city appeared to have been minor.

Super Typhoon Hagupit May Hit The Philippines

Typhoon Hagupit is suspected to hit Philippines this Saturday, and will affect about 30 million residents.

The Typhoon which is also known as Ruby in the Philippines intensity was equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic or Eastern Pacific Ocean.

It is on course for the Eastern Samar province and the city of Tacloban which was badly hit by last year’s Typhoon Haiyan, is one of the places which might be hit by this coming typhoon .

Even though Typhoon Hagupit is not as powerful as Haiyan it is still very dangerous as it will cause heavy rain, storm surges and  landslides.

In fact BBC News reported that Typhoon Hagupit could bring storm surges up to one storey-high.
