A Tribute to My Chinese Heritage

The above beautiful piece of art portrays wild orchids with Chinese characters “幽兰”, which means “orchid”, is hung on the wall of our living room.

It was a gift for my mother by our Chinese friend saying that it will bring us ‘ong’; but my father had it hung at that particular spot because it is indeed a very beautiful gift.

I am a Malay and I am very proud to be one; the beautiful Chinese piece of art with the Chinese characters in our living room does not make me less of a Malay.

I cannot read Mandarin, but thanks to our dear family friend, Aunty Helen Ang, we are able to understand what the Chinese characters says; and as orchids in the Chinese culture symbolises wealth and fortune, I guess it does have something to do with ‘ong’.

People often remarked that neither my parents, my siblings nor I have the typical Malay looks, even thought both of my parents are Malay; I think it is the result of our mixed bloodlines.

My maternal grandfather is a Malay with Peranakan Chinese and Middle-Eastern ancestries along the family bloodlines while my maternal grandmother came from Chinese bloodline.

While my paternal grandfather is a Malay, my paternal grandmother is a Malay with some Siamese and Middle-Eastern bloodlines.

I come from a family with a very rich history especially from the lineage of my maternal grandfather where Tun Zain Indera of Tersat, who came from the lineage of the Sultanate of Johor-Riau was my 8th great-grandfather; my great-grandfather, Haji Awang Omar bin Dato’ Mata Mata Tua Yusof was the younger brother of Dato’ Seri Amar Diraja Haji Ngah Mohamad bin Dato’ Mata Mata Tua Yusof.

As I am very proud of my maternal grandfather’s ancestry, I am also proud of my Chinese ancestry.

My maternal great-grandfather, Hj. Ya’acob Abdullah Al-Yunani whom we affectionately called Appa was a Chinese Muslim and his Chinese name was Tung Foo Piew.

Appa told us about how his father, Hj. Abdullah Sulaiman Al-Yunani sailed from Kwantung or Guangdong in the 19th century to start a business and a new life in the Tanah Melayu.

What makes me really proud about my Chinese ancestors is that despite coming from a different country with a different culture and traditions, they managed to assimilate with the local Malay community around them.

Appa said that it did not take a long time for his parents to able to speak Malay and for his father to learn to read and write in the Jawi scripture.

Appa wore his baju Melayu with ‘kain pelikat’ and ate Malay food but he also loved the Chinese style soups, noodles and tofu which we also do enjoy regularly in our home.

And despite of being proud of his Chinese heritage to the end of his life, Appa spoke fluent Malay, practised the Malay custom and proudly called himself a Malay, as he met all the criteria to become a Malay as stated in the Article 160 of the Federal Constitutions.

Appa who called Tanah Melayu his homeland was happy to assimilate and had a very high respect for the Malays and was thankful to be accepted in this country as he knew life in China used to be hard, which was the reason why his parents risked their lives sailing to Tanah Melayu in seeking for a brighter future of their children.

And I am also proud to learn from my mother’s uncle that a great statesman, Tun Tan Siew Sin who was a former Minister of Finance was a distant relative of ours from my maternal grandfather’s side of the family; and that our ancestors came in the same boat to Tanah Melayu long, long time ago.

It is the respect and love for our country as well as for our fellow citizens and obeying the laws of the land that makes us a very special nation.

What A Joke, Khalid Samad

Picture1

Above is Khalid Samad’s tweet, posted on July 19th 2014.

The tweet is just so funny that I can’t believe that he wrote it.

Khalid Samad tweeted as if he is so sad that people still call him “Khalid gereja”…

But look at some of the things that he said and done in matters regarding Islam…

He complained that people still call him “Khalid gereja” although he went to more than forty suraus and mosques during Ramadan.

If he visited the suraus and mosques to give his ‘politicized tazkirah,’ it will be just something like his other series of ‘ceramah politik PAS’.

Just like Hannah Yeoh and other non-Muslim DAP and PKR leaders visiting suraus and mosques for political gain and some even gave political tazkirahs.

Selangorku: Khalid Ibrahim Keluar PKR?

Nowadays, it has been raining very heavily in Selangor every evening, so heavy that it caused flash floods in some areas.

Flash floods and mud floods in Balakong and Batu 11, Cheras - The Star, April 26, 2014.

But sadly, despite the rains and flash floods, the taps are still dry in Selangor…

A sad, dry tap… I wonder why is it feeling so sad… May be it felt cheated by the Selangor government’s false promises. (Image credit to Helen Ang – helenang.wordpress.com/2014/04/30/dun-sgor-perlukan-hanya-seorang-sahaja-adun-melompat-untuk-ia-segera-tumbang/)

And sometimes when there is water, this is what we get…

But crisis can also make people becomes very creative…

This is what Anwar wanted President Obama to see – how Selangor government helps people create new inventions…

Creative inventions and innovations create more businesses and good for the economy.

Well, Anwar made Khalid Ibrahim worked too hard to improve the economy of the Selangor’s residents…

I wonder if he cries at home. And maybe until he can't go to sleep...

He works so hard that he did not have much time  to sleep…

…until sometimes he got too tired, that he fell asleep during a press conference…

... So he must sleep during the press confrence and dreamt about water crisis...

… MB of Selangor fell asleep during a press conference…

Maybe Khalid should take a rest and watch this video…

Wow… it works! Khalid is feeling better and cheerful now… but wait, he has found a new friend?

...since he and Najib are good friends...

See, how happy Khalid is with Najib…

Mujahid, A Muslim Must Not Lie

I read in Helen Ang’s blog that Malaysiakini reported the MP for Parit Buntar, PAS’s Mujahid Yusof Rawa, made a statement that PAS won’t keep silent as the Christians are bashed.

( helenang.wordpress.com/2014/03/02/christians-telling-world-that-theyre-bashed-in-malaysia)

My question is who bashed the Christians?

Now I wonder, is Mujahid dreaming?

Even though he really wants to become the hero of the Christians, he should be an honest man and must not be a liar.

Actually it is Mujahid’s friends who keep on calling other people racist, extremists, low-class and other bad names and try hard to bashed others.

Mujahid should tell his friends to obey the law, follow the Federal Constitution, the Rukun Negara, respect the social contract and study the history of Malaysia.

As a leader of PAS, Mujahid must respect his bosses and listen to PAS’s Majlis Syura before making any statement; or may be Majlis Syura and Dr. Harun Din is not relevant anymore to PAS.

I wonder…

Nurul Izzah Sedang Buat Apa Tu?

Nurul 1

A screenshot from MalaysiaKini. http://beta.malaysiakini.com/news/252630

Above is a screenshot of an article by a pro-Pakatan portal, MalayisaKini with a photo of PKR’s Nurul Izzah.

I first saw the above screenshot on Helen Ang’s blog entitled, ‘Watch the Dapster mob in action’ and I was shocked to see the photo.

I wonder why did MalaysiaKini published the photo; because in the photo, Nurul Izzah looks as if she is ‘praying’, and I wrote to Aunty Helen to ask her opinion.

Watch the Dapster mob in action – Helen Ang’s blog. Please click the photo for larger image.

As a pro-Pakatan portal, I don’t think that MalaysiaKini did that to humiliate Nurul Izzah.

In fact, MalaysiaKini has always been supporting her.

So, what is the message that MalaysiaKini tries to send to it’s readers by publishing the photo?

And how does Nurul Izzah feels about the photo?

I Am Real

I was very excited to read a post entitled, Yes, he is 10 years old on Aunty Helen Ang’s blog today.

Thank you, Aunty Helen, you made my day 😉

Actually after I suscribed to her blog, Aunty Helen wrote a post entitled, ‘Announcement’, advising her readers not to use bad language because a 10-year-old boy reads her blog.

I guess some people do not really like the idea and some thought that Aunty Helen was joking and so they sent her all kinds of comments.

There are people who said that politic is not suitable for kids and the weird part is when some of them don’t even believe that I or my blog really exist 😆

And my big sisterAeshah Adlina  wrote this post to prove that I’m a real person.

My big sisters and I like writing and we write a lot, last year we took part in a U.S. writing challenge called National Writing Month or NaNoWriMo where we need to complete a story with a given minimum words in just one month.

I need to work very hard and at last I was able to complete a 20,000 words novella on November 22, 2013 which was 8 days before the dateline.

I begged my father to let me start my own blog when I was 5 years old; and I promised him that I’ll work hard and that I’ll always write new posts.

Now, blogging is something like a schoolwork for me, and I need to write properly, sometimes I have to rewrite the posts and I can only publish my post after my mother says it is okay 🙂

I write mostly about things that I like, for example politics, news, nature, art and others but sometimes I was given a topic to write such as to write a post using one of the idioms and phrases that I learned as the title, so I wrote, Bersih 3.0 Violence – The End Justifies The Means?

By the way, I also write poems, stories and political comics.

I’m very lucky to have the chance to meet and speak to lots of wonderful people including politicians and I learned a lot from them.

Some PR supporters sent me rude comments using words that I’ve never heard and could not understand.

Last night I received the below comment on one of my post, ‘Selangor’s MB Must Obey The Sultan Or Resign – Naser Disa‘- I guess some people just like to blame others because the article has nothing to do with PERKASA and Uncle Naser Disa is and was not a member of PERKASA.

Come1

It is very funny how PR leaders and supporters really hate PERKASA and blamed PERKASA for everything.

My parents are not members of PERKASA but I always meet and talk to Uncle Zul of PERKASA during talks and seminars 🙂

I was having lunch with Uncle Zulkifli Noordin and some of my father’s friends.

And I also have photos with Datuk Ibrahim Ali, this photo was taken by Uncle Jinggo at the Istana Kehakiman Putrajaya.

I also met the Selangor Menteri Besar, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

And last but not least …

I was a big fan of Anwar Ibrahim (please click for more photos 🙂 )years ago but after what happened during BERSIH 3, I changed my mind.

I wrote about it in Videos-Bersih 3.0 Riot Instigated By Anwar and Azmin?( Video-Anwar dan Azmin Signal Rempuh Dataran Merdeka?).

Anyway
