My Highlights of 2017

With the arrival of the new year of 2018, I’m writing a post dedicated to 2017, listing out some of the things that happened around me in the previous year.

1. A surprise letter from Tun M, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia

On the 12th of January, I received a letter from Tun Dr. Mahathir, replying to my article,“Perjanjian DAP, PKR, PAN, PPBM Untuk Meminda Perkara 3(1)?” In the article, I did not even mention Tun M’s name but only commented about how the word ‘bebas’ in the agreement between DAP, PKR, PAN and Mahathir’s PPBM can undermine and violate the Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution. So Tun M replied to my article came as a real surprise but unfortunately I am sad to say that not only Tun M’s explanation does not answer my question, but it also makes the matter more confusing because the fact that the Article 3(1) is the Article that explains about Islam as the religion of the Federation and it’s position over other religions in Malaysia and not about the rights to convert to other religions. Eric Paulsen Loses Defamation Suit Against Hafiz Nordin

Eric Paulsen looking devastated after losing the case.

Lawyers For Liberty Executive Director, Eric Paulsen lost a defamation case against the Chairman of Jaringan Muslimin Pulau Pinang (JMPP), Ustaz Hafiz Nordin at the High Court in the Kuala Lumpur today.

High Court Judge the Honourable Dato’ Mohd Zaki bin Abdul Wahab ruled the Plaintiff, Eric Paulsen failed to prove the Defendant (Ustaz Hafiz Nordin) was defamatory against him ordered Eric Paulsen to pay costs in the amount of RM20,000 to Ustaz Hafiz Nordin.

Eric Paulsen filed a suit against Ustaz Hafiz based on the article published by Portal Islam dan Melayu on the 9th of February, 2015 entitled “Jangan biar Eric Paulsen bebas tanpa perbicaraan” where Ustaz Hafiz was reported as saying:

The portal interviewed Ustaz Hafiz regarding Eric Paulsen’s tweet on the 9th of January, 2015:

Below are some photos taken at the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex earlier today:

It was a great experience for me for I wish to become a lawyer.

Is The Government Or Anwar Ibrahim In The State Of Paranoia?

Screenshot_3

Anwar Ibrahim made the above press statement in reference to Eric Paulsen’s arrest for his spiteful  tweet that maliciously accused JAKIM for promoting extremism every Friday.

Reading Anwar Ibrahim’s statement makes me feel so irate because he had gone too far to politise and sensationalise this issue and maliciously condemning JAKIM, the authority and the government.

It is a defamatory attempt to disrepute the Islamic authorities and the Malaysian government.

Calling the government as “a government in a state of paranoia” is just like calling the Malaysian Muslims who are angry and hurt by Eric Paulsen’s series of humiliating and spiteful tweets as also being in the state of paranoia.

So now Anwar is trying to say that the people who are doing their best to protect peace and harmony and prevent hatred between the multiracial Malaysians are paranoid?

Or could it be that it is Anwar himself who is paranoid because he is too troubled by all the problems that he’s facing?

Anwar wrote that Eric Paulsen did no offense by tweeting his spiteful tweet, when Eric Paulsen not only made false and wild accusation towards JAKIM but indirectly humiliates Islam and spews hatred towards the Muslims who support JAKIM.

Anwar wtote:

“… the over-reaction to Paulsen’s tweet also signifies the rising tide of religious intolerance that appears to be engulfing our multi-racial multi-religious nation. And fanning the flames of communal suspicion, hatred and hostility are the usual suspects who owe their existence to political patronage.”

Anwar accused the authority for “over-reaction to Paulsen’s tweet”, so my questions are:

  1. What kind of tolerance does Anwar Ibrahim ask from the Muslims? Is Anwar asking the Muslims to become ‘Liberal Muslims’ who do not follow the rules of Islam, do not fight for Islam and do not bother if others humiliate Islam?

  2. Who is actually “fanning the flames of communal suspicion, hatred and hostility”? Isn’t it Eric Paulsen who did that by maliciously accusing JAKIM as promoting extremism in its Friday sermons and continuously humiliate Islam and the Muslims in his other tweets?

Anwar is actually looking for trouble and is spewing hatred by making such statement; and if the government is really in “a state of paranoia” as accused by him, he would already be charged in court.

I seriously wonder, how can Anwar Ibrahim, a person who used to be regarded as a great Muslim political leader, has the heart not only to support those who defame Islam but also to defame Islam and the Muslims in order to support them.

He wrote that, “Jakim sermons have on various occasions made unwarranted attacks”, which is untrue and humiliates Islam because what ever was said in JAKIM’s Friday sermons are in accordance with the teaching of Islam Ahli As-Sunnah Wa Al-Jama`ah.

Anwar Ibrahim must sit down and think back of the things that he had said during the time when he was the president of ABIM and realise that the Malaysian Muslims are not Liberal Muslims because Liberal Muslims do not follow the teaching of Islam.

Even Pope Francis says there are limits to freedom of speech and that, “One cannot provoke, one cannot insult other people’s faith, one cannot make fun of faith.”

Remember what Karpal Singh once said? “Anwar Ibrahim has created enough problems for the country. Anwar Ibrahim harus bertaubat”.

Saifuddin Abdullah Tuduh Khutbah JAKIM Sebar Kebencian?

Picture1

Let me start with a tweet written by Saifuddin Abdullah which I presume is a comment on Eric Paulsen’s tweet saying that JAKIM promotes extremism every Friday.

In Saifuddin’s tweet, he seems to be supporting Eric Paulsen by posting a part of  JAKIM’s Friday sermon and pretending to ask something like, “how about something that spews hatred like this?”.

After studying JAKIM’s Friday sermon from JAKIM’s official portal, I found the Friday sermon that Saifuddin Abdullah is referring to is “Rasulullah SAW Kekasih Allah”, on January 25, 2013.

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

To me, Saifuddin Abdullah is wrong because:

  1. There is nothing wrong with the above Friday sermon. As an adult Muslim, it is weird if he cannot understand the sermon.

  2. Since when does reminding the Muslims to protect their akidah is considered as spewing hatred?

  3. He is supporting a person who humiliates Islam.

  4. He, himself also humiliates Islam by questioning what Islam teaches us to do; which is to remind each other towards good deeds and away from bad deeds. His question is uncalled-for especially because he is a Muslim.

  5. I read the whole text and JAKIM did not tell the Muslims to hate anybody, only to protect our akidah and be wary of our enemies.

  6. A Muslims must try to stop any incoming threat from it’s source or ‘sadduz zara’i’ but he is doing the opposite.

I do not know what is the point of Saifuddin Abdullah doing what he did.

Does he feels cool to accuse JAKIM spewing hatred to justify and support a non-Muslim who slander JAKIM and Islam?

And he also re tweeted  Eric Paulsen’s tweet:

Picture3

Now, Saifuddin Abdullah always promotes what he said as being moderate; which makes me wonder what does he mean by the word?

Does being moderate means that we do not only let others humiliate Islam but we too should find ways to humiliate Islam, follow and interpret Islam the way we wish and be free from our responsibilities as a Muslim?

Or does a moderate Muslim means to be only partly Muslim and being a true Muslim is called an extremist?

Maybe this can help us understand the terms better:

moderat vs ekstrem

RASULULLAH SAW KEKASIH ALLAH

(25 JANUARI 2013 / 13 RABIUL AWWAL 1434H)

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

Bayangkan akibatnya.

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

Sidang Jumaat Yang Dirahmati Allah,

Eric Paulsen Slanders JAKIM

Screenshot_1Human Rights lawyer, Eric Paulsen wrote on his twitter page on the 9th January that:

“JAKIM is promoting extremism every Friday. Govt needs to address that if serious about extremism in Msia.”

As a lawyer who claims to be fighting for Human Rights, Eric Paulsen must not make such false accusations towards others.

And if JAKIM does promote extremism “every Friday”, then I suppose JAKIM will not publish their Friday sermon for the whole world to see.

As a lawyer, Eric Paulsen must learn about the Federal Constitution and understand the Article 3(1), which says:

“Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions maybe practised in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation.”

First of all every citizen of Malaysia must accept and respect the fact that Islam is the religion of the Federation because that is an important part of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia.

According to Dato’ Naser Disa, a very senior lawyer who is also our constitution expert, the words, “but other religions maybe practised in peace and harmony” means that the followers of other religions must practise their religions in peace and harmony with others from other religions especially Islam, which is the religion of the Federation of Malaysia; and not to cause uneasiness towards the Muslims.

It does not mean that Islam and the Muslims must obey them and they can do anything to Islam.

Eric Paulsen’s harsh words had cause anger among the Muslims and that is already wrong because there will be no more “peace and harmony” as written in Article 3(1).

And non-Muslims has no rights to set the rules for the Muslim of how to practise Islam.

Has Eric Paulsen forgotten the Article 11(3)(a)?

Article 11(3)(a):

“Every religious group has the right—
(a) to manage its own religious affairs;”

Eric Paulsen and his friends always use Article 11(3)(a) when it suits them but now he is the one who rudely interfere with not just another religion’s affairs but the affairs of the religion of the Federation.

Eric Paulsen also bashed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid bin Abu Bakar and told him to be “neutral and impartial” after the IGP tweeted that Eric Paulsen should be arrested under the Sedition Act.

Screenshot_2

After all he had said, Eric Paulsen again tweeted that, “criticising Jakim should not be construed as insulting Islam” which I think is a lame excuse that could only be agreed by his friends who really hates the government.

Worst is Eric Paulsen does not criticise JAKIM but he slandes JAKIM and unfairly tarnish the Islamic authority.

JAKIM is the official Islamic authority in Malaysia and so, if he insults JAKIM, then it means that he also insults Islam, which is the religion of the Federation.

Eric also re tweeted some of Lawyer For Liberty tweets about some of JAKIM’s Friday sermons, including sermons about Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 120 and also about Syi’ah.

Like Lim Kit Siang who also thinks that he has the rights to interfere and complain about the verse from Quran, Eric Paulsen must understand that they are not a Muslims, so they do not understand the concept of Islam and have no rights to teach  JAKIM and the Muslim about the verses from the Quran and other parts of our religion.

What is wrong when JAKIM warned the Muslims of Syi’ah which is a deviant teaching?

From his accusations, it shows that he knows nothing about Islam so it is silly for him to argue and fight about something he does not know or understand.

As a lawyer, Eric Paulsen must understand that the head of Islam is the Sultans and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and he has no rights to control Jakim or the Muslims.

I am very sad to see a lawyer who fights against the law instead of fighting for the law.
