Hurricane Dorian: The Aftermath in Bahamas (In Photos)

CNN – Grand Bahama is facing “extreme flooding” after receiving 30 inches of rain from Dorian, the National Hurricane Center said in its 10 a.m. ET update Tuesday.

The island faces yet another day of dangerous winds and life-threatening storm surge as Dorian continues to inch its way over the Bahamas.

Along with the tremendous amounts of rainfall, the NHC said, Grand Bahama is seeing wind gusts measured at 140 mph and storm surge of 10 to 15 feet above normal tide levels, causing destructive waves.

These hazards from Dorian are forecast to continue on Grand Bahama through most of the day.

Dayton, Ohio Mass Shooting: 10 People, Including A suspect Killed (Photos)

(Reuters) – Ten people, including one suspect, were killed early on Sunday in a shooting in Dayton, Ohio, and at least 16 others were taken to hospitals with injuries, police said.

Authorities gave no details about the circumstances of the shooting except that it occurred in the city’s Oregon District, an historic neighbourhood known for its nightclubs, bars, art galleries and shops.

The Dayton Daily News said the shooting occurred at or near an establishment called Ned Pepper’s Bar in Dayton’s Oregon District.

A report by CNN stated that the incident happened at around 1:00 a.m. ET in a popular area in downtown Dayton on August 4; only about 13 hours after a shooting that left 20 dead in El Paso, Texas.

CNN also reported, Dayton Police Department’s Assistant Police Chief Matt Carper said in a news conference that the shooter has been shot dead by responding police officers.

Photos: Deadly Hurricane Irma To Hit Florida After Hitting Caribbean

After the Category 5 Hurricane Irma made its landfall in the Caribbean with 175 mph sustained winds, Hurricane Irma is expected to make a landfall in South Florida this weekend.

NBC News reported that at least 12 people were killed due to the hurricane that had caused vast devastation in the Caribbean islands.

Florida is braced for a possible direct hit that could cause a devastating damage to the southern part of the state.

CNN reported that the National Hurricane Center said Irma will make landfall in southern Florida as a dangerous major hurricane and has issued hurricane and storm surge warnings for South Florida including from Jupiter Inlet on the east coast of the state and southward around the Florida Peninsula to Bonita Beach on the west coast.

The warning included the Florida Keys, Lake Okeechobee, and Florida Bay. 

NBC News also wrote that the National Weather Service said that “locations may be uninhabitable for weeks or months” due to extreme winds, adding that “structural damage to buildings, with many washing away” was possible in some coastal areas.

Hurricane Irma is one of the strongest Atlantic storms ever recorded as it caused massive destruction to multiple places including Barbuda, Puerto Rico, Turks, Caicos and others.

Last two months, Texas was hit by the deadly Category 4 Hurricane Harvey, that caused immense damage and catastrophic flooding, and also killed at least 70 people.

A Taiwanese ATR-72 TransAsia Airways plane crashed in Xixi village outside the Magong airport in Taiwan’s Penghu archipelago on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.

The ATR 72 turboprop aircraft departed from the southern municipality of Kaohsiung at 17:43 local time (09:43 GMT), but lost contact with controllers at 19:06, CNA said, citing the Civil Aeronautics Administration.

The plane, carrying 58 people, crashed into buildings after a failed attempt to land at Magong airport.

BBC News reported that forty-eight people were killed while another 10 people were injured.

A few empty apartment buildings adjacent to the runway caught fire after the crash.

Officials said that two French nationals were among the dead, and no crew members are thought to have survived.

Five Penghu residents were injured on the ground but by Thursday morning all had been discharged from hospital, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said.

Official said visibility at the time of the crash was 1,600m (one mile) and within acceptable standards for landing, despite the stormy weather.

The plane, carrying 58 people, came down in a village near the airport after an apparently failed second attempt to land.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17  carrying 295 people crashed near the town of Torez in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine on Thursday.

According to a Facebook post from a top Ukrainian official, as it flew at about 10,000 meters (nearly 33,000 feet) on the way from Amsterdam to Malaysia.

CNN reported that a senior U.S. official said, a radar system saw a surface-to-air missile system turn on and track an aircraft right before the plane went down.

The senior U.S. official also said that a second system saw a heat signature at the time the airliner was hit.

The United States is analyzing the trajectory of the missile to try to learn where the attack came from.

Malaysia Airlines Jet Shot Down Over Ukraine – Huffington Post

Boeing told CNN that it will aid in any investigation that follows the Malaysia Airlines plane crash.

200 homes have been damaged or destroyed during a massive bush fire in New South Wales.

The fire started at the Port Stephens area, more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Sydney on October 13th.

A 63-year-old man died of a suspected heart attack on Friday, defending his house from the big fire.

Police said Monday they had arrested two boys, age 11 and 15, over two earlier bush fires.

The 11-year-old has been charged with two counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread, NSW Police Force said.

About 287,000 acres (116,167 hectares) were affected by the fire.

A volunteer fire fighter, Michael Green recorded a video of the fire using his phone.

CNN reported that Forecasts of high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds over the next few days in the Blue Mountains region, west of Sydney, have state officials especially concerned.

Power lines were also blamed for the fire as reported by CNN.

Locals feared that three big fires could merge into an inferno in New South Wales where lots of people live.

A Magnitude 7.7 Paskistan Earthquake Killed 327, Created An Island

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Baluchistan on Tuesday.

The U.S. Geological Survey said, the quake, with a depth of about nine miles (about 15 kilometers), struck 43 miles (69 kilometers) northeast of Awaran and 71 miles (114 kilometers) northwest of Bela.

It destroyed houses and cut communications with the worst affected district of Awaran.

The earthquake was so powerful that it caused a small island to emerge from the Arabian Sea, just off the Pakistani coast.

Pakistani officials said that the earth moved with enough force to create a small island visible off the southern coast after the huge tremor. 

By Wednesday, at least 327  were reported killed in the strong earthquake.

Washington Navy Yard Mass Shooting-7 Victims Identified

13 people including the suspected gunman were killed in the a mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard Monday morning.

None of those killed were military personnel.

CNN reported that officials have identified seven of the victims killed in the mass shooting.

They are: 

1. Michael Arnold, 59;

2. Sylvia Frasier, 53;

3. Kathy Gaarde, 62;

4. John Roger Johnson, 73;

5. Frank Kohler, 50;

6. Vishnu Pandit, 61; and

7. Kenneth Bernard Proctor, 46;

Photos: Fire Rages Along New Jersey Boardwalk

KYW reported that the fire started at Kohr Brothers frozen custard shop on the FunTown Amusement Pier around 2:15 p.m. ET. 

AP reported that more than three hours after the fire started in the vicinity of an ice cream shop, television footage showed flames still leaping into the sky and thick black smoke covering a stretch of the coastline.

About 20 businesses have been burned and damaged over six blocks. 

As reported by CNN, the fire was still burning along Ocean Terrace Avenue between Stockton Avenue and Lincoln Avenue Thursday evening.
