The Best Sate Kambing!

Looking for a very delicious sate kambing or lamb satay?

A few days ago, on our way home from Tangkak in Johor, we purposely drove to Pedas, a small town in the district of Rembau in Negeri Sembilan to buy tasty sate kambing from a small road-side stall owned by Encik Sudirman and his wife Azizah.

Their sate kambing is the best sate kambing that we had ever tasted, well marinated, tender and juicy; and for us they are tastier than the sate kambing offered at the popular Restoran Sate Wak Radol in Taman Sri Skudai, near Johor Bharu.

Other than their scrumptious sate kambing, the friendly couple also offer tasty chicken and beef satay, all at a very decent price.

We came across the satay stall last year, as we drove to Pedas looking for a place for dinner while we were at the Nation Buidling Camp in Ulu Sepri and this is the third time we had the chance to enjoy their delicious satay.

Located near the Pedas Police Station, it opens at around 6:30PM or on wards, so if  you happens to be in the town of Pedas, please give it a try.

But if you are planning to purposely drive to Pedas for the satay like we did this time, please contact the stall owner in advance to make sure that they are open for business.

The Iconic ‘Mee Racun’ of Batu Pahat

The district of Batu Pahat, Johor is known for the iconic Mee Racun 3G restaurant, which is located in Kampung Kenangan Dato Onn, in front of the Pinetree Hotel.

Featured in the Johor state newspaper, Jauhar, it serves delicious dishes with the ‘racun’ (poison) themed name, such as Kuew Tiaw Racun, Nasi Goreng Racun, and of course, the iconic Mee Racun.

Despite its frightening name, each dish is actually not poisonous at all; but the gravy is red and looks ‘poisonous’, thus leading it to the peculiar name, as what had been explained to me by a lady at the restaurant.

I’ve already eaten at the restaurant three times, the food was constantly tasty and the people who work there are also very kind and friendly.

My personal favourite is the ‘Kuew Tiaw Racun’, a spicy and delicious dish that I really enjoy, where every mouthful was a treat in itself with its unique and distinctive flavour ‘explodes’ in my mouth in each spoonful.

One of my favourite parts of eating the dishes here is to sip in the bone marrow using a straw.

So if you ever go to Batu Pahat, you won’t want to miss the chance to eat these marvellous dishes.

It is the ride that I would first go to every time I visit the park.

Terbaik! Ikan Baung Tempoyak @ Restoran Nasir Corner, Segamat

Wondering where to have lunch while in Segamat?

As Segamat is known for its fresh water fishes and prawns, ‘ikan baung’ is the ‘must-try’.

During our visit to Segamat early this week, my parents and I had lunch at the popular Restoran Nasir Corner in Taman Utama Segamat, Johor.

The restaurant which is popular for its fresh ‘ikan baung’ and huge fresh water prawn or ‘udang galah’ dishes also offers lots of other very Malay dishes, including the very tasty kerabu and a huge selections of vegetable dishes which are very, very tasty.

Despite feeling rather full, I ate more than I usually do, as the food served are just really delicious especially the tasty ‘ikan baung’ and the kerabu.

For me ‘ikan baung’ is tastier than ‘ikan patin’. 

The owner of the restaurant is a very friendly man, he stopped at our table a few times, asking us if we enjoy the food.

Johor (4): Photos Of High Tide vs Low Tide (Tanjung Piai)

Last week I visited Tanjung Piai again, but it was a very short trip that I did not have much chance to take pictures.

Anyway, during my second visit which was a couple of weeks ago, I managed to take wonderful photos of the place.

It was high tide when we reached the Tanjung Piai Resort, unlike my first visit when the tide was low that I could see the muddy ground below the piers.

So I took the chance to take pictures of the place to compare them with the pictures I took during my first trip and we can see big differences in the scenery as well as the weather.

During our first trip, it was quite hot and it wasn’t really windy until nighttime.

But during my second visit, it was very, very windy that some of the table clothes at the unoccupied tables at restaurant flew and they had to clip the table clothes to the tables.

Johor (2): Photos – Taman Negara Tanjung Piai (Tanjung Piai National Park)

During our last trip to Tanjung Piai, we visited the Tanjung Piai National Park where the southmost tip of Eurasia mainland is located.

Unfortunately, the most significant part of the Tanjung Piai National Park where the southern most tip signage and globe is located, was temporarily closed because part of the pier’s structure is unsafe.

Johor (1): Tanjung Piai Resort

I have been traveling to various parts of Johor and apart from Johor Bahru, I have so far visited Kota Tinggi, Pontian Muar, Batu Pahat, Segamat and Tangkak as well as some small towns in the districts such as Parit Raja.

On the 11th of March, I visited Tanjung Piai which is situated in Pontian.

The southernmost point tip of Tanjung Piai, at the coordinates of 1°15’N, 103°30’E is not only the southernmost part of Malaysia but also the southernmost tip of the Eurasia mainland!

We stayed at the Tanjung Piai Resort which was connected to the land by long piers.

The whole complex was built on stilts and walking on the piers, we can enjoy the amazing views of the Straits of Johor and the beauty of the mangrove swampland.

We reached the resort during low tide and as we walked along the piers to our room, we can see the muddy ground of the mangrove swamp below the piers.

As night came the seawater started to rise and after a few hours, the water rose so high that one can even fish from the piers.

It was very beautiful during the night and walking on the piers over the seawater, I felt as if I was walking on piers over the ocean with the cool sea breeze blowing in my hair.

As I listened to the calming sounds of the waves and looked at the stars shining brightly above me, I was enchanted by the serenity of the surrounding.

It was amazing to look at the straight line of the bright lights coming from the ships as if there’s a street market over the dark water of the Straits of Johor in contrast to the darkness of the mangrove swampland on the opposite side.

Tanjung Piai is also a great place for enjoying fresh seafood; the crabs that we had for dinner was so fresh and tasty and I really enjoyed them.

I find the place more amazing during high tide; it was as if we are on a floating hotel.
