ABC New reported that the category 5 Hurricane Dorian, which came ashore on Elbow Cay of the Abaco Islands, is tied for the strongest Atlantic hurricane landfall on record, along with a hurricane on Labor Day in 1935 that struck the Florida Keys and moved up along the Gulf Coast of Florida.

The eye of the storm made a second landfall at 2 p.m. on the island near Marsh Harbour, and a third landfall an hour before midnight on the eastern end of Grand Bahama Island.

Devastating conditions continued on the Abaco Islands overnight, with western portions of Grand Bahama, including the main city of Freeport, seeing the situation head south through the early morning.

Below is a report by The Guardian – Category 5 Hurricane Dorian pounds Bahamas – as it happened:

  • Hurricane Dorian has pounded the northernmost islands of the Bahamas with winds reaching speeds of more than 220mph (355kmh).
  • The first death was reported from the hurricane by Eyewitness News in the Bahamas, which spoke with a woman who said she had learned her eight-year-old grandson had died, likely drowned, and her granddaughter was missing. Both children were in the Abaco Islands.
  • Dorian is the biggest storm to hit the island chain in modern times and has been described as “catastrophic” and posing a “life-threatening” risk.
  • Meteorologists are finding it difficult to predict the path of the hurricane because of its wide “cone of uncertainty”. Though the Bahamas will probably suffer the most devastation, the big question in terms of scale of potential human suffering is where and when Dorian will hit along the east coast of the US, where population density is so much greater.
  • Georgia and South Carolina issued evacuation orders for their coastal communities on Sunday night as the National Hurricane Center warned of storm surges that could reach 18ft to 23ft (5.5m-7m) above normal levels.
  • On Great Abaco Island in the Bahamas, footage emerged of floodwaters reaching halfway up the sides of family homes with parts of the roofs torn off. The island chain’s homes are built to withstand winds of at least 150mph (241km/h).
  • Bahamian prime minister Hubert Minnis said in a televised address: “This is probably the most sad and worst day of my life to address the Bahamian people. I just want to say as a physician I’ve been trained to withstand many things, but never anything like this.

The Star Online – SEREMBAN: The authorities have ruled out foul play in the mysterious death of Nora Anne Quoirin, whose remains were found in a stream 10 days after she disappeared from a resort in Pantai Hills near here.

Medical experts who conducted a nine-hour autopsy on her remains ruled that her death was caused due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding, said state police chief Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop.

London was hit by horror attacks in three different areas, with at least two people were killed and many more were injured by a van attack and stabbings.

Witnesses told Express.co.uk that a white van had appeared to purposefully hit pedestrians on the London Bridge at 10.08pm.

Dozens of people were on the bridge at the time of the attack.

The Telegraph reported that witnesses said 20 people were run down by a van and pedestrians were attacked with knives at 10.08pm.

There were also multiple reports of rapid gunfire at the scene.

It was also reported that a police officer at the scene urged people to run from the bridge and that the London Bridge is closed at both ends.

The London Bridge incident was followed by another incident in Borough Market on the south bank of the River Thames where three men ran towards the market, stabbing people as they ran.

The Telegraph also reported that police entered bars and restaurants in the Southwark area around 11pm and told customers to get down on the floor amid reports that the incident was still ongoing.

People outdoors were told by yelling police officers to run from the area as the atmosphere turned to one of “hysteria”.

Guests staying at Premier Inn on Borough High Street were evacuated as the police cordon extended.

The third incident happened in Vauxhall, South London, after the two incidents in Central London.

Metropolitan police tweeted at 11:44pm tonight that officers were on the scene.

It was later declared that this incident has nothing to do with the first two incidents.

Police have advised people to keep away from the area while The Shard and the News Building are also on lock down.

The Met urged people in the three affected areas to run, hide and call the police.

Prime Minister Theresa May said, “Following updates from police and security officials, I can confirm that the terrible incident in London is being treated as a potential act of terrorism.”

717 Killed In Mina Stampede

At least 717 people were killed during a stampede in Mina, during the Hajj Pilgrimage, while 863 others were injured today, September 24, 2015.

The death toll is expected to rise.

To this date, the authorities haven’t know what caused the stampede.

The Saudi authorities said the tragedy hit when two large groups of pilgrims who were preparing for one of the last major rites of their trip met on an intersection of two roads,

Al Jazeera English’s Basma Atassi in Mina reported that the tragedy took place among tents erected on Street 204, and not where people were throwing stones at the Jamarat pillars which are surrounded by a five-storey bridge-like structure.

So far, no Malaysian pilgrims were reportedly involved with the incident.

This is the second deadly disaster during this year’s Hajj, after a construction crane collapsed on September 11, 2015, killing 111 pilgrims and injuring more than 200 others.

Malaysian PM Confirms Plane Debris Is From Flight MH370

PRIME MINISTER NAJIB RAZAK STATEMENT ON MH370
Utusan – On 8 March 2014, flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared. The days, weeks and months that followed have been a period of torment for the families of those on board.

The plane’s disappearance was without precedent. At every stage, we followed the tiny amount of evidence that existed. But, despite the efforts of 26 nations and the largest search in aviation history, from the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean, the plane could not be located.

Neither could investigations by the world’s leading aviation experts answer why MH370 veered off course and went dark. While the plane’s disappearance remained a mystery, we have shared the anguish of those who could find no comfort.

Last week, on 29th July, we were informed by the French authorities that part of an aircraft wing had been found on Reunion, the French island in the Indian Ocean.

Today, 515 days since the plane disappeared, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that an international team of experts have conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris found on Reunion Island is indeed from MH370.

We now have physical evidence that, as I announced on 24th March last year, flight MH370 tragically ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

This is a remote, inhospitable and dangerous area, and on behalf of Malaysia I would like to thank the many nations, organisations and individuals who have participated in the search.

The burden and uncertainty faced by the families during this time has been unspeakable. It is my hope that this confirmation, however tragic and painful, will at least bring certainty to the families and loved ones of the 239 people on board MH370. They have our deepest sympathy and prayers.

I would like to assure all those affected by this tragedy that the government of Malaysia is committed to do everything within our means to find out the truth of what happened. MH370’s disappearance marked us as a nation. We mourn with you, as a nation.

And I promise you this: Malaysia will always remember and honour those who were lost onboard MH370.
